Block Trump’s Corrupt Slush Fund for Insurrectionists
A federal judge has temporarily halted payouts while legal challenges to the fund move through the courts. This is good news, but we still need Congress to act, and we need every Member of Congress on the record supporting or opposing the Trump regime’s corruption.
You know what to do…. call Rouzer, Tillis & Budd and tell them:
I urge you to immediately take action to block the nearly $1.8B DOJ slush fund that Trump has created to pay insurrectionists with our tax dollars. No taxpayer dollars should be steered to January 6 rioters, senior government officials or members of the President or Vice President’s family. Only Congress has the power of the purse in our country. I expect you to reassert that power and block the creation of this slush fund. It is a blatant attempt to steal our tax dollars, and completely unconstitutional. Anything less than total opposition is a failure of office.

The NC State Board of Elections is proposing harmful new voting rules: Here’s what you can do
Yep, our state board of elections is at it again…. finding ways to whittle away at who can vote. In the wake of the US Supreme Court ruling on Callias, that is now allowing many Southern States to re-draw their voting maps to suppress the voices of black voters, NC is looking to find additional ways to trim the legitimacy of valid votes.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections has proposed harmful rule changes that could:
open the door for county boards to reject certain ballots along party lines
limit certain types of constitutionally protected gatherings at polling sites and
make it even harder to vote by mail (and harder to have those ballots count).
What can we do?
Your voice has power! The state board is required by law to consider all public comments, so every comment provided over the next 60 days counts — both to show your disagreement with these anti-voter rules and to provide alternatives that can actually serve all voters.
Because there are 3 rules with proposed changes, it is important that our comments speak to one rule at a time. Here is sample language for the proposed rule that would allow party-line voting on some provisional ballots.
To the Rulemaking Coordinator and Members of the State Board of Elections,
I am submitting this public comment to formally oppose the proposed 2026 Voter ID Exception Rules currently under review by the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
A voter currently may have to cast a provisional ballot and fill out a voter ID exception form when they have a “reasonable impediment” to bringing a photo ID to vote.
The current rules require county election boards have a unanimous vote to reject a provisional ballot cast using a voter ID exception form.
But the proposed new rules would allow county boards to reject those ballots on party lines 3-2 (currently all 100 county boards are governed by 3 Republicans and 2 Democrats) if they have “grounds to believe” the reasonable impediment form is false.
We already know that North Carolina’s voter ID law targets vulnerable populations. Black voters are disproportionately less likely to have qualifying photo ID and voters who are unable to produce voter ID at the polling place are at high risk of having their provisional ballots rejected.
Please do not follow the ugly path of other Southern states by limiting ways that our NC black voters have a voice in our government.
The current rules requiring unanimous vote are not onerous or time-consuming. The proposed rules will not save any time or effort on the party of the county boards. The current rules uphold the dignity and rights of US citizens to have their vote counted. Do not allow this to become a partisan decision.
I urge the State Board of Elections to reject the proposed 2026 Voter ID Exception Rules instead abide by its own existing guidance under published numbered memos. Thank you for the opportunity to submit this public comment.

Did you know that by 2030 corporations like Duke Energy and Amazon will pay ZERO dollars in state income taxes in North Carolina?
In this session of Making Connections on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30pm, we'll build on what we learned about our state's decade-plus of tax cuts and dive deeper into the Corporate Income Tax: who pays it, and how it's impending elimination will impact our state government's ability keep up with rising needs across NC. Register Here
If that doesn’t tick you off enough:
Duke Energy reported more than $1.5 billion in profits for the first quarter of 2026. If North Carolina taxed the company and all corporations at a modest 5 percent rate, the state could generate billions of dollars in additional revenue to support essential services like public education and help provide raises for public-sector workers, including teachers, as well as provide the dire resources needed to support the 1.5 million children that attend public schools.
These profits come as customer bills have risen by nearly 22 percent since 2020, and as Duke Energy seeks an additional rate increase of nearly 20 percent over the next two years. The company’s billion-dollar profits are being generated at the expense of working-class families, who continue to see their electric bills climb year after year.
